It seems like every month there’s a new beauty trend that everyone needs to to try out, from bold lip colors to charcoal face masks, you never know what’ll come next. One of the newest trends starting to gain popularity is lash tinting, a new way to not only make your eyelashes pop, but also cut down the time it takes you to get ready in the morning.

What is Lash Tinting?

Lash tinting, commonly paired with eyebrow tinting, is the process of tinting or dyeing your eyebrows and eyelashes. A dye, sometimes a vegetable based dye, is placed onto the eyelashes for approximately 20 minutes. Along with Vaseline, a protective patch is applied under your eye to protect your skin. The first coat of vegetable dye is applied to a closed eye, and sets for about seven minutes before a second coat is applied. After the second coat sits for several minutes, the pod, along with the dye on the lashes, is removed and cleaned. To ensure no dye seeped into the eye, a saline solution is applied to thoroughly clean the area.

Who Should Try It?

Lash tinting works for everyone! While blondes will see a greater different and more pop, brunettes and those with darker hair will see a noticeable difference as well. Many blondes that have lashes that fade at the end, so having their lashes tinted can help create darker, fuller lashes.

How Long Will it Last?

Your lash tint will last four to six weeks, however if you want to keep your look from fading over time, you can build upon your tints. Another way to help your tint last longer is to avoid oil-based moisturizers, cleaners, and wipes, as they’ll dissolve the tint faster. If you want to add even more volume to your lashes, adding mascara will do the job, and won’t affect the tint on your lashes.

Things to Keep in Mind

While lash tinting seems perfect, there are no FDA approved dye’s or tints for lashes or brows, so if you’re considering getting either or both done, it’s important to check and see what your salon uses beforehand to be safe. The more natural the ingredients are, the safer your tinting will be.
